Watch you favorite movies with top notch subtitles

ALLPlayer is a media application that plays a wide variety of media formats. The moment you start the install process on the screen will appear a window where you will have to choose which type of skins you would like to use. You have available Standard, Navi HD and Cinematic HD.

When you launch the program then you will be asked if you want to use the application as a default DVD player, if you wish to associate the player with various files and the most interesting feature: "Shall I switch on intelligent subtitles (IQ Text function)?". Basically what this does is that it analyzes the length of the subtitles and they are kept on the display long enough so that you can read everything.

To test this i went in the Preferences menu at subtitles. Here you can find a subcategory named Intelligent subtitles management. The first thing that pops into your eyes is the "How fast do you read?" bar. For the purpose of this test i set this to slowly and the i pressed save changes.

I must say that this really works. The subtitle is kept on the screen long enough, so definitely that you will have plenty of time to read it. Now that i have explored this feature lets see how really good is AllPlayer as a media application. The interface of the program looks very good, however the menu system is not extremely intuitive.

To access the main functions of the program you have to click on various icons. When it comes to the play controls, definitely that you will not encounter difficulties, however with the rest of them you will have to point the mouse on the icon and wait for the instructions text to appear. The best thing is that once you figure out what each icon does you will have no problems navigating through the menus.

All the menu elements can be found at the bottom of the main window. Before analyzing the options and functions of this player first lets see how it handles various types of video formats. For the test I loaded up an HD movie. The player encountered no difficulties in playing the movie. Then I loaded another HD movie.

This time it appeared a warning message which stated: "No audio codec... Codec you need: DTS. Do you want to download via LiveUpdate?". I pressed yes, saved the changes and then the movie loaded without any kind of problems. Until now everything sounds great. On the top bar beside the basic play controls you also have a playlist, an equalizer, various audio and video filters and of course the general settings.

There is also a TV option however this can be used only in Poland territory. When entering the settings menu at the top of the list you have "Download missing codecs". Basically this option does exactly what it says. First you will have to press the button "Scan your system " and if its required, to press download now. However what i did not like was the fact that when i pressed download now a window appeared with the message: Enter the code for LiveUpdate. To receive the code you have to pay a certain amount of money.

Below the first section there is Codecs Programs, Subtitles, Movie Editor, Settings, Tools, and Info. When i entered the other section related to codecs, in the first two subcategories the same message with live update appeared. This is definitely a big drawback for the application. In the settings menu you have various playback options, keyboard shortcuts etc. Also if you want to have quick access at the most important settings of the program all that you have to do is to press click right above the bottom bar.

At the end of this review i can honestly say that i really like AllPlayer. It's just as good as BSPlayer or VLC Media Player. AllPlayer has top features, it supports a wide variety of formats and has an excellent subtitle system. However the thing that i really don't like is that to be able to download a few audio and video codecs you have to pay a certain amount of money.

-great looking interface
-handles HD content without any kind of difficulties
-intelligent subtitles feature really works

Bad:

-the TV option works only if you are in Poland territory
-to get the code for LiveUpdate you have to make a payment
-confusing menu system
