Great program for keeping your computer protected from malware
Emsisoft Anti-Malware is an antivirus and a antimalware application. It uses two scan engines to increase the protection level and to offer you a better virus detection.
The download and install processes take a while and the moment they have been completed and you start the program you are given four licensing options: test the product for three days, sign up to test the program for a month, unlock the full version by providing a license and the freeware mode.
In the last option you can only use the scanner for cleaning. For the purpose of this test i picked the first option. After clicking next the program downloads various updates.
According to my estimations this took about 2 minutes. After the update procedure was completed you are given the option to "Clean Computer Now".
You can choose from four types of scans: quick, smart, deep and custom. I have picked quick scan and i have to say that the process did not take to long.
According to the program the next step is Prevent Infection. Basically in this module you are given the opportunity to activate various security options such as Enable guard on system startup, Enable surf protection, Activate File Guard etc.
Also you can choose the application to perform scheduled scans. I have to say that this is a very useful feature. After you have decided on the options that you were provided and you click next you will be announced that the configuration process has been finished.
Now entering the program i have to say that the main interface looks very good. The menu system is well organized and is not filled up with all kind of overwhelming settings.
You have the Security Status field where there are displayed all the activated security modules.
In Quarantine can be stored various files that later you want to be scanned or maybe you just want to get rid of them.
By entering the main security module of the program, Guard, you get the chance to operate all kind of settings and modifications. You can choose to activate Behavior Blocker. This security feature consists of various components that have the purpose to monitor malicious activity.
In Guard a very useful option is Alerts. Usually a malware detection application generates plenty of alerts however you can lower their amount by using various useful settings such as Intelligent Alert Reduction, Paranoid Mode etc.
Another excellent module in Guard is Surf Protection. Basically you can set the program to alert you about various Internet threats such as trackingcookies, malware hosts, warez hosts etc. The software can also block those threats.
In the Configuration you can set Emsisoft Anti-Malware to do scheduled scans, various updates etc. Here you can also choose to enable the main security module, Guard, on system startup and enable Activate self protection. A very nice feature is Explorer Integration. By activating this you can scan files directly from the Windows Explorer menu.
The last field in the menu is HiJackFree. By clicking this a separate window will appear in which are displayed all the processes and services that are running on your computer. Simply put this is a sort of an editor. You can choose to stop all kind of processes and delete files that you believe that can harm your computer.
I have to say that Emsisoft Anti-Malware really impressed me. The main interface of the program looks excellent, the Guard security module is powerful and very efficient, there are available lots of scanning options and HiJackFree is an excellent addition.
On the downside the size of the installer is pretty big and it takes a while until the program is fully configured.
