Softworld editor's review -
An excellent security suite
Comodo Internet Security is a security suite that includes an firewall, antivirus and antispyware. After starting the install process at some point you will be prompted to pick the security modules that you want to be installed.
You have Comodo Antivirus, Comodo Firewall and Comodo GeekBuddy. The installation process takes a pretty long amount of time.
The moment this procedure is finally completed and you start the program on the screen of your monitor appears an excellent looking interface.
Basically there are five big categories: Summary, Antivirus, Firewall, Defense+ and More. In the first category, Summary, you have displayed the security modules that are currently activated.
Each of them can be set to work at various security levels. From this window you can easily update the virus database, run a scanning process or make the program's firewall to block all the traffic.
Now entering in Antivirus, here you have available various settings and options. In Run a Scan you can set the program to scan your hard drive for malware, viruses and spyware.
Taking a look at Quarantined Items, here are stored all the files that were quarantined by the virus scanner. You can choose to Add files, delete, restore them etc.
View Antivirus Events offers you the chance to take a look at the events and alerts which were signaled by the scanner.
A very cool feature in the Antivirus category is Submit files. Here you can add all the files that you believe or suspect are infected or not safe for your computer.
Scheduled Scans is certainly another excellent feature. Basically you can set the application to scan your computer for viruses at specified times.
In Scanner Settings as you can probably guess you can make various settings to the program's virus scanner.
Here you can enable Real-Time Scanning, make the application to perform a Manual Scanning (you choose to scan memory the moment when Windows starts, scan only for archive files, after the scanning procedure update the virus database etc), Scheduled Scanning etc.
The third big category of the program is Firewall. Here you can check out the Firewall Events, which is a record of events and alerts, Define a New Trusted and Blocked Application.
Also here you can fully take advantage of the firewall by creating and modifying packet filtering rules in the Network Security Policy field.
View Active Connections allows you to check out which applications are connecting to the Internet and Stealth Ports Wizard allows you to create a set of global firewall rules.
Taking a look at the last field in the third category, Firewall Behavior Settings, you can make various modifications to the way how the program's firewall behaves.
You can set this security module to work at various security levels: Disabled, Training Mode, Safe Mode, Custom Policy and Block All. The default security level, Safe Mode, alerts the user about the traffic initiated by unknown applications.
By checking out Block All, this security module will block the traffic from any network interface. In Firewall you can also set the Alert Frequency Level.
There are available five levels: Very Low, Low, Medium, High, Very High. Setting the Firewall to work at the highest alert level, will show alerts for almost anything.
Defense+, the fourth category, consists of various settings. You have View Defense+ Events, Trusted Files (in this field you can add or remove files to/from your local executable files database), Unrecognized Files and Computer Security Policy.
In this last section you can configure in various ways the Defense+ module. Also in the fourth section you have a list with the active processes and various settings.
You can set Defense+ to work at various security levels: Training Mode, Clean PC Mode, Safe Mode and Paranoid Mode.
In settings you can also enable or disable the Execution Control Level, which is a module that verifies executable files before they are loaded into the memory. Here you also have Sandbox and Monitoring settings.
In More you are able to update the application, check out the support forums and the help section. In this category you also have Preferences, Manage My Configurations and Diagnostics.
In Preferences you can set the program to automatically check for updates, enable the Comodo Message Center, change the theme and language of the program, set the Parental Control etc.
I have to say that during the test Comodo Internet Security managed to offer an excellent level of security.
As a conclusion i have to say that i like this program. It offers plenty of features, a nice interface and is pretty light on your system resources.
However there are a couple of aspects that i don't like. The installation and configuring processes, both take a pretty long amount of time.
Good:
-excellent interface
-Submit Files and Scheduled Scans features
-excellent Firewall module
-lots of useful features and settings
Bad:
-long installation and configuring processes
