Excellent all-in-one writing solution

WhiteSmoke is a useful utility for English writing and grammar check. Beside that, the software also has translation tools and an dictionary.

After starting the installation process, a window appears in which you will be prompted to choose the installation type. You can select from quick and advanced.

The installation procedure doesn't take long and the moment the program is launched you notice that it has a very clean and simple interface.

The purpose of WhiteSmoke is to improve your English writing. Basically this is done by analyzing the text that you are writing. What is great about this software is that it offers hints, word alternatives and instant feedback.

In theory all this sounds great. But lets make a real world test and see what is what.

First lets take a look at the Writer module. I have typed some random text and then i pressed the Check button. Now on the top of the words or phrases that the program suspects that were written wrong appears "mistake".

By making click right on a mistake, the application offers you various information: Explanation (explains the meaning of the word), How to use (in what type of prepositions is the word used), Enrichment (the adverbs or adjectives used with that word), Thesaurus (various synonyms of the word), Definition and Web Search.

After you have verified your text press Apply. The program will move the text that you have written into a Notepad sheet and you will be offered the option to save it.

The next field is Translator. Here basically you can translate a text in various languages. I pasted an English text and i tried to translate it in French.

The moment i did that appeared the message that "During the beta phase the text is limited to 1000 characters." Then i introduced a smaller text and i translated from English to French and then backwards.

The process did not take long and the translation was very accurate. What i want to mention is that the translator tool in the trial edition can change your text into one of 9 languages.

Now lets check out dictionary. WhiteSmoke offers you the opportunity with just a few clicks to figure out complex word meanings. Just type or paste the word into the text field, pick the languages and then press Go. I tested this and i must say that the results were excellent.

In the last category, Templates, you are provided numerous email and document templates related to various fields: business, law, medicine etc. Here you also have included literary submission cover letters and personal greetings.

I have to admit that WhiteSmoke is a really good software. It has a nice looking and easy to use interface, excellent grammar and spelling capabilities, very useful translator and dictionary functions and on top of that lots of templates.
