Test and optimize your Internet connection speed

SG TCP Optimizer is an application that improves and also tests your Internet connection speed. I have to say from the beginning that this is an lightweight application that doesn't require installation.

After you have download it you just need to run the program. The main interface although it doesn't look great it contains plenty of settings that can be made depending on your Internet connection.

On the main window in the General Settings bar you can choose what type of Internet connection your would like to optimize. Basically you have available to choose speeds up to 100+ Mbps.

Under the connection speed you can select from the available network adapters that are installed in your computer.

You can choose to make various changes to the available network adapters or you can decide to "Modify All Network Adapters". Beside being able to make all kind of changes, the program also shows your IP address.

You can choose to run SG TCP Optimizer with various type of settings. If you are not willing to make all kind of modifications into the program you can basically choose from 3 presets: Windows Default, Current and Optimal.

However if you feel like messing around with the program you can select Custom. When choosing custom things really become complicated.

To be able to understand all of those settings you really need to have specific knowledge. A regular user definitely will encounter problems in figuring out what is Congestion Control Provider or TCP Chimney Offload.

An experienced user certainly will find all of this settings extremely useful. After you have made all the desired changes in the General settings field the only thing left to do is to press the Apply changes button, which is located at the bottom of the main window right next to Exit.

By going into the Advanced settings basically you are given the opportunity to make all sorts of changes in order to improve your Internet connection speed.

Here you have Internet Explorer Optimization, Host Resolution Priority, Network Memory Allocation, DNS Error Caching, Dynamic Port Allocation etc.

In case you encounter difficulties in dealing with all of those settings i really recommend you to use those three predefined presets about which i mentioned earlier in the review.

The application also allows you to make changes to the Windows Internet Registry, to test your latency and to calculate RWIN values utilizing Bandwidth Delay Product (BDP).

After i tested SG TCP Optimizer i have to say that is a good product. Yes, it doesn't have the best looking interface but i believe that it is just not required for such a program to have something like that.

There are available plenty of settings and to navigate through the menus is very easy. On top of that the program does not require installation.

The only problem that this application has is that you have to be an experienced user to work with all of the settings available in the Custom mode. What really saves SG TCP Optimizer is the fact that you can easily choose from those three predefined presets.

Good:

-lots of settings to optimize your Internet connection speed
-well organized
-lightweight program that doesn't require installation
-predefined presets available

Bad:

-much to complicated to use in the Custom mode
