Manage Microsoft Word documents

Microsoft Office Word Viewer is a very simple application that can be used to manage Word documents.

When the software is started, a window appears in which you are in the position to open into the utility a word document.

Beside that, the program is also capable to handle XML files, web pages, document templates, rich text format and text files.

After you have opened your document, it will be displayed in the main window.

Entering the File section, you are able to print your word file. Here can also be accessed the Properties of that file and also check out the list of recently opened documents.

In View you may decide on the page layout: Normal, Web Layout, Print Layout, Reading Layout and Outline.

In this section you can also switch the image to full screen and apply various zoom effects.

What i have noticed is that, when trying to open word files which were created with a newer version than Microsoft Word 2003, you get the following message: "This file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Word. Do you want to download a compatibility pack so that you can work with this file?".

The moment you click OK, you are redirected to the Microsoft's site where you will get the chance to download the compatibility pack.

In Tools, Options, can be made various settings to the Print and Web Layout, Formatting marks etc. In this area you also have available all sorts of Printing options.

The Window section allows you to open the document displayed into the program in a new page, split the word file in two parts etc.

In my opinion Microsoft Office Word Viewer is a decent utility. It is simple to be used and beside Word, can handle several types of documents.

On the downside, if you want to open word files which were created with Word 2007 or 2010, is required to download a compatibility pack.

Good:

-easy to use
-beside word files, you can open all sorts of documents

Bad:

-to open word documents that were created with a newer version than Microsoft Word 2003 an extra download is required
-not a good looking interface
