Fast and lightweight PDF reader

Foxit Reader is an application that, just like the name says, is able to open various PDF documents. The moment you have finished to download the program you will start the install process. This procedure doesn't take long as in the case with Adobe Reader. During the installation process you will be prompted to choose from default or custom settings.

If you are a basic user that just likes to open from time to time various PDFs then choose the default configuration. If you are an advanced user and you like to play with the settings of the program choose custom. After the installation process have been completed and you start the program a "Welcome to Foxit Reader" window will appear. From this window you will be able to open a PDF file or OnDemandCM.Â By choosing the second option you will be in the position to store, share, collaborate on documents online.

When selecting this the application will ask you to download the OnDemandCM file. When i tried this i received the massage: "The system cannot find the path specified".Â However most of the people will choose to use the first option, which is opening a PDF. Once you have opened with Foxit Reader a PDF document you will notice that the file is displayed on the hole page.

What i like a lot is that the menu system, which is located at the top of the window, is not filled with all kind of complicated options. However during the test i found it a little bit confusing to use.
The first thing that i noticed when is started to use Foxit Reader is that you don't have a box where you can specify the exact size of the document on the page. However you have available very useful magnifying tools. There is a zoom in, zoom out, loupe and magnifier tool. Other available tools are the hand, select text, snapshot, find text, find next and so on.

Also there are available the + and - buttons with which you can adjust the size of the page of the PDF document that you have opened. The PDF file also can be printed, rotated at 90 degrees or you can choose to insert into it text. Although the last option is pretty useful what i did not like was that, once i selected it, i couldn't make it to disappear. Only by shutting down the application and then reopen it i managed to get rid of that menu.

A useful feature that i really liked was the search option. If you want for instance to search for a certain key phrase about which you have no idea where you have read it in the document you can very easily type in the search box the key words related to that phrase.

In the left at the top of the screen right under the File and Open menus you have available the Pages section. You can choose to see all the pages of the PDF document as thumbnails. In this way you can very easily navigate through all the existing pages. A new document can be opened by selecting "Click To Open A PDF file". This box is right under the File. To the PDF file you can choose to add a image or movie or you can attach to it a certain file. By entering the preferences option you can make various changes to comments, documents, forms, history, Internet search, javascript, page display etc.

Foxit PDF reader is an excellent alternative to Adobe Reader. It is light on the system resources and it provides you some excellent options. What i did not like so much was the fact that OnDemandCM, the service which should allow you to store, share and collaborate on documents online, did not work. Also if you want to add a certain size to the PDF document that you have just opened you simply can't do that.
