Excellent tool for creating CD and DVD images

PowerISO is one of the most popular CD burners. With this application you are able to create DVD images, UDF DVD images, Audio CD images, Video CD images etc. Beside that PowerISO also allows you to create Floppy and Hard Disc images.
After you have installed the program and you start it you instantly figure out that this is not a free application.

This is because of the window that appears right when you start PowerISO. It basically gives you three options: Order Online, Enter Registration Code or Continue Unregistered. The program has a nice looking interface. To navigate through the menu is very easy as all of the functions are well organized.

Like in mentioned above PowerIso lets you to create various type of images. After a image have been created you can choose to burn it directly to a CD or DVD. The menu system is very simple. Almost at the top left of the window you have the New button, which allows you to create various types of images, Open, which can be used to open the images that are stored on your hard drive, Add, which you can use to add various files and folders.

The Extract function, that can be found on the same bar as the others, is very useful when you want to extract the content from a certain type of image such as iso, nrg, mdf etc. Also if you have DVDs or CD's with important information you can very easily use the Copy function. What this does is that it creates a image after the CD or DVD that you have in your drive.

Also in the menu there is the Burn button. This can be used to burn on Cd's or DVDs all the images that you have created. A very useful function that this program has is the Mount feature. This enables you to load up a certain image and also to create up to 23 virtual drives. By going further into the menus we see the classic elements that can be found in most of the Windows applications: File, View, Tools, Options, Help etc.

When entering Options you can choose to change the look of the interface by selecting from the available skins. Some of them look pretty good while other are not so great. Also in the Options section there is available Configuration. Here you can choose various file associations, operate settings to your virtual drives and many others. PowerIso is definitely a great application.

Despite of the fact that there are plenty of features available, to use them is definitely extremely easy. However in case you encounter some difficulties when it comes to this aspect you can always check the Help section. Now you may think that this is the perfect CD/DVD burner tool for you. The first thing that you have to remember is that in order to fully take advantage of all of those features you need to buy the program.

The trial version allows you to create images with a maximum size of 300 MB. Although there is an unlimited trial period and some users may prefer using the application in this way, to fully enjoy the capabilities of this program you have to get the full version.

Good:

Bad:

-the trial version doesn't let you to create images larger than 300MB
-ugly skins
